Biology asks the question.
Evidence shapes the answer.

I work at the intersection of reproductive and environmental health, molecular biology and computational analysis. My aim is to connect rigorous research with questions that matter in the laboratory, classroom and wider community.

About

Curiosity across disciplines, with care for the evidence.

Portrait of Dr. Saira Amir

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, where I also support the BS Bioinformatics programme. My work brings together reproductive biology, environmental toxicology, epigenetics and bioinformatics.

Over more than a decade in university teaching and research, I have supervised students, contributed to curriculum and quality assurance work, and collaborated with researchers in Pakistan and internationally. Research appointments at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Crete helped shape my interest in how exposures and molecular regulation affect reproductive health.

I am equally interested in what happens after data are generated: whether analyses are reproducible, whether a result is interpreted within its limits, and whether the next scientific question is better than the last.

Research

Questions I work on

My interests are connected by a practical question: how can different kinds of evidence help us understand complex health outcomes more carefully?

01 / 04

Reproductive and environmental health

Male and female infertility, chemical exposures and endocrine disruption, with particular attention to questions relevant to Pakistan.

02 / 04

Epigenetics and toxicogenomics

Sperm DNA methylation, Sertoli-cell mTOR signalling, the blood-testis barrier and molecular pathways responsive to exposure.

03 / 04

Bioinformatics and multi-omics

Integrating genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic and microbiome data to explore mechanisms, biomarkers and reproducible analysis.

04 / 04

Responsible biomedical AI

Computational toxicity prediction, biomedical analytics and the careful evaluation of AI-enabled tools in healthcare.

Teaching and leadership

Research is only part of the work.

I care about the people and systems that make good science possible: students learning to ask sharper questions, curricula that keep pace with the field, and teams that can work across disciplines.

01

University education

Teaching across developmental biology, cell and environmental biology, bioinformatics, Linux and bioinformatics scripting.

02

Programme development

Coordinating the BS Bioinformatics programme and contributing to curriculum revision, outcome-based education and quality assurance.

03

Technology strategy

Serving as Chief Technology Officer at TOS Technologies, with interdisciplinary work spanning digital health and public-safety applications.
